The regular seminar "Migration studies": Mikkel Rytter “The Power of Love: Visibility and Mobility among Sufi Muslims at the Margins of the Danish Welfare State”
On October 9, 2018 was held a session of the regular seminar "Migration studies" together with the “International Seminar Series in Sociology” organized by the Higher School of Economics School of Sociology and the Institute of Social Policy. Mikkel Rytter, Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology (Aarhus University, Denmark) presented her recent research “The Power of Love: Visibility and Mobility among Sufi Muslims at the Margins of the Danish Welfare State”.
On October 2, 2018, the Institute for Social Policy held a scientific seminar on the topic “Healthy lifestyle in old age: barriers and opportunities”
The seminar moderated by Oksana Sinyavskaya, deputy director of the Institute, heard a presentation by Dr. Elena Selezneva, Senior Research Fellow of the Center for Comprehensive Social Policy Studies.
On September 20, Daniel Kashnitsky spoke as a panelist at the expert section "Moral Aspects and Ethics of Legal Regulation of International Migration" as a part of the conference "Migration and International Law"
The conference was organized by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The event was held in Moscow on September 19-21, 2018.

On September 10, the Federation Council, the upper House of the Federal Assembly, the Russian Parliament, held a meeting of the Scientific Expert Council for Historical Settlements. It discussed the creation of a list of historical settlements, their comprehensive development and the improvement of their investment attraction.
On September 4-7, 2018, a UNESCO Forum on Intercultural Dialog was held in Kazan. The forum united the scientists and public figures from several dozens of countries. The major topic of the forum was the protection of the world heritage as an important part of the intercultural communication.

On September 4, 2018, the Institute for Social Policy held a scientific seminar on the topic “Inequality and Welfare Dynamics in Russia during 1994-2015”
The seminar moderated by Alina I. Pishnyak, director of the center for studies of income and living standards, heard a presentation by Dr. Kseniya R. Abanokova, Junior Research Fellow of the Center for Comprehensive Social Policy Studies.
The Conference took place on 15-17 August 2018 and was hosted by the Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society of the Linköping University, Sweden. Daniel presented a paper called "A trap of forced illegality for HIV-positive migrants in Russia".
In July and August 2018, Ekaterina Demintseva and Dmitry Oparin conducted field research in Tomsk exploring the migration situation in the city. This study was funded by a Russian Science Foundation grant “The use and creation of urban infrastructures by migrants in Siberian regional centres”.
