The Gaidar Forum

On January 16, 2018, an expert discussion “Will the social policy remain a national priority?” was held within the framework of the Gaidar forum. Lilia Ovcharova, director of the Institute for Social Policy, and Natalia Zubarevich, chief research fellow of the Centre for Studies of Income and Living Standards of this Institute, took part in the discussion.

On November, 13, 2017, Ekaterina Demintseva presented her study of the ways urban infrastructure is created and used by by migrants from Central Asia in Moscow at the seminar of the Center for the Study of Russia, the Caucasus and Eastern Europe (CERCEC), EHESS, Paris.

On November 9, 2017, Ekaterina Demintseva gave a talk on "City and migrants. The use of urban infrastructure by migrants in Moscow" at the University of Nanterre (Université Paris Ouest Nanterre). Presentation featured the findings from her fieldwork that illuminate such issues as the ways migrants understand  the city, the extent to which they are able to use its social infrastructure, as well as to create that of their own.

The conference “Migration: new trends and directions”

On the 26-27th of October 2017 the conference “Migration: new trends and directions” took place in the Higher School of Economics. The conference was co-organized by the Higher School of Economics, Oxfam in the Russian Federation and Centre for Franco-Russian Research in Moscow (CEFR). Among 240 participants of the conference there were migration specialists from academia, Russian and international civil society organizations, international organizations and governmental institutions. More than 40 research reports, based on empirical studies and covering a wide range of issues pertaining migration and migration policy were presented within the 2 days of the conference. The conference became a multi-disciplinary platform for discussions on methodology of migration research, studies of transnationalism, issues of integration and adaptation of migrants as well as economic, social and cultural aspects of migration.

Dialogue between Russian and German scientific schools", Institute for Migration and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), Osnabruck University, October 8-11, 2017.

On September 21, 2017, Ekaterina Demintseva, Head of the Center for Qualitative Research for Social Policy, delivered a presentation on "Migrants' Children in Schools" at the III International Conference "Integration of migrants as a governance issue: the European and Russian contexts" organized by the Russian Council for International Affairs jointly with the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Service under the President of the Russian Federation.

Ekaterina Demintseva Presented at the International Conference “The Informal and the Formal in Times of Crisis: Ethnographic Insight”

On July, 7, 2017, Ekaterina Demintseva, Head of the Center for Qualitative Research of Social Policy, spoke about "Informal Health Care Practices: The Case of Central Asian Migrants in Moscow" at the International Conference on the "The Informal and the Formal in Times of Crisis: Ethnographic Insight." The conference was held at the University of Peloponnese, Corinth (July 7-9, 2017). Organizers of the conference: International Urban Symposium - IUS; Commission on Urban Anthropology (CUA); University of Peloponnese, Corinth.

Decomposition of regional convergence in population aging across Europe - a paper by Ilya Kashnitsky in Genus

Genus published a paper by Kashnitsky, de Beer, and van Wissen. This is the first paper of the PhD project on regional differences in population ageing across Europe.

Ilya Kashnitsky wrote a blog post for Demotrends in which he documented step-by-step the process of reconstruction of the regional (NUTS) demographic data for Denmark. Demotrends is a collaborative blog of young European demographers.
