November 18, 2016. Svetlana Biryukova and Alla Makarentseva presented results of the motherhood penalty estimation they conducted basing on the 2014 Russian Longitudinal Monitoring Survey sample. The authors estimated regression model consisting of two stages, i.e. binary model estimating conditional probability of being a mother (stage 1) and weighted log-linear model estimating women's wages (stage 2). The model revealed 4.2% motherhood penalty in Russia. While estimating the same model for the subsamples of women with different education levels, the authors discovered differentiation in the penalty. Thus, highly educated women with children received 8.4% lower wages than their childless compatriots, and women without higher education faced 2.5% motherhood penalty.
