Presentation of the collective monograph «Society of Unequal Opportunities: Social Structure of Modern Russia»
On June 22, 2022 the presentation of the collective monograph "Society of Unequal Opportunities: Social Structure of Modern Russia" (by Natalia Tikhonova (ed.), Svetlana Mareeva, Vasiliy Anikin, Yulia Lezhnina, Anastasia Karavay, Ekaterina Slobodenyuk) was held.
The book is devoted to the analysis of social structure and social stratification of Russian society. The authors turn to a relatively new for Russian researchers, but theoretically and methodologically grounded approach to the analysis of stratification based on the life chances and risks. A methodology for constructing a vertical model of stratification of Russian society is proposed. It considers opportunities and risks of people in key areas of life, such as economic conditions, work situation, human capital accumulation, and consumption and leisure activities. The authors focus on the configuration and dynamics of this model, the specifics of everyday life of representatives of each strata, the factors that determine the differentiation of their life chances and risks, as well as intergroup mobility.
The book's presentation was opened by Liliya Ovcharova, Vice Rector of the HSE University and Director of the Institute of Social Policy. The main results of the research were presented by authors - Svetlana Mareeva, Vasiliy Anikin and Ekaterina Slobodenyuk from the Center of Stratification Studies of the Institute of Social Policy, HSE University. Yuri Latov (Institute of Sociology, FCTAS RAS) acted as a discussant.
