Lilia Ovcharova, a Vice Rector, Director of Institute for Social Policy, took part in the meeting in Rostov-on-Don on the progress of the Older Generation Federal Project within the framework of the Demography national project

On May 17, 2019, Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister of Russian Federation, conducted the meeting.

Among the participants were Maksim Topilin, Minister of Labour and Social Protection, Veronika Skvortsova, Minister of Health, Vasily Golubev, Governor of the Rostov Region, Alexey Bocharov, Governor of the Volgograd Region, Tatiana Golikova, Deputy Prime Minister.

The meeting took place in the hospital for the war veterans that has been working in Rostov since 1946. The hospital provides medical help for soldiers who fought in the Second World War and veterans of various military campaigns. The hospital receives more than 5 thousand patients annually. Among the facilities, there is a gerontology center.

By implementation of the Older generation federal project within the framework of the Demography national project, the government plans to raise the expected healthy life longevity to 67 years. Support of the employment is supposed to motivate citizens to lead an active lifestyle. Russian citizens of pre-pension age will have an opportunity to receive a professional education in the universities and colleges. A long-term care system will be created for elderly people who cannot take care of themselves.
